If you took the time to read the thread title, the thread starter asked if it was the jdm oil filter.

I merely said yes.

Not if it's on properly. Unless you're some superhuman clamp handed beast.

I had one on tight once and no tool so I drilled a hole in the side and used a screwdriver to loosen it. Bit messy.

I now use the K&N HP-1004 which has a 1 inch nut on the end and a hole for safety wire.

safety wires for what? does the filter get loose?

geeze how tight are you guys putting the filter on?
I dont have a problem removing mine by hand when its time to change my oil, takes a hair of elbow grease but I dont need a tool or a srew driver.
Am I missing something here?

7/8th of a full turn after the gasket makes contact. If you can remove the filter by hand after 5,000 miles, you A) have gorilla arms, B) are not tightening the filter enough, C) have a problem with the threads.

Do you check your oil filter in between oil changes?

I agree you are tightening to tight. There is no need to crank it all the way down. Tighten by hand and back off 1/4 turn or less. Ive been doing it this way for 25 years and never had a leak or problem otherwise.

Question for Swift: How long have you had your S2000?
