J's racing f22C

If anyone is still wondering, the 2.2 litre motor is around 11 grand. There's a local guy here that got one around 6 months ago.
What I don't understand is a lot of people complain aobut how hard it is to make decent NA power in this car. Then a few JDM companies (J's, Feel's, ASM etc.) build and sell a crate motor with 300 ps and people bitch because it costs 10 grand. Buy a motor from Honda and try to duplicate it. The bottom line is J's Racing makes quality parts for not that much considering the r&d that goes into designing and producing them.

Run it on pump gas with a conventional intake system and how many real hp do you think it would make? How much torque down low?
Anyone can build a beautifully balanced engine and run it in ideal conditions and quote big numbers. Whether or not you can substantiate it reliably in the real world is another issue.
Not knocking J's. I'm sure they make great stuff. But if you really think they know tricks that others don't you're fooling yourself

1 ps = .94 hp. It's still a lot closer to 300 hp than stock.
J's and Feel's don't run ITB's. ASM does. Both J's and Feel's run "conventional" intakes.
100 octane IS pump gas in Japan.
ASM is the current Tsukuba time attack record holder for fr/mr NA. Time attack is far from ideal conditions. I'm not saying J's and other companies like them know some "secret" engine building process. They do, however, build powerful NA motors for their customers.
BTW, as far as reliability goes, the 2.2 litre J's motor here local is still doing fine.

Ok, but from what I see there is no mention of aftermarket parts. Are we talking a stock motor balanced and blue printed or are we talking cams and pistons and rods and cranks?
You can get 300ps by upping the red line, opening the ports and some aggressive cam timing but it isn't worth $11K. You can also get 300ps by printing '300ps' on a brochure. Has your friend actually dyno's it?

I think the reason that JDM brand engine cost so much more is related to their living standards. Japanese shop rates are like $100-$150 per hour so for example, doing a port & polish job for the cylinder head may take 40hr for them to do it
I'm not an uber-JDM'er myself (in fact, when it comes to performance mods I subscribe to Aus' philosophy of value above brand), but I just don't understand where all the JDM hate comes from. We all know Japan makes quality automotive product (Exhibit A: that S2000 sitting in your driveway). If money was not an issue, I'm sure we'd all have at least 2 S2000's: one macked out, race-stripped JDM N/A and the other blown out the yin-yang courtesy of the US aftermarket (Garrett, AEM et al.)
Bottom line: if someone wants to spend $10K on a J's Racing motor, more power to them. It don't confront you none.

Actually J's Racing tells you on their website exactly what they do to their engines.
