From what I understand it was 11 grand including the exchange
If the latter is the case then you can take the cost of new and/or second hand parts out of the local price.
The US built motor was $8093 according to an earlier post.

This is often a contentious issue. Some people like to quote entire posts, pictures and all and then put 'ROFL' at the bottom. I just post the bit I am referring to and address it directly.
I didn't do it to make you look stupid. Personally I'd like to keep this conversation as civil as possible to hopefully learn from it.
BTW, it's 'AusS2000'.

Here's the quote I assume you are working of:
So the comparison is against $6693 if no exchange is required and if it is, then you have to compare to $1751.38 (that can't be right surely).
- New Shortblock F22C From Honda - $2609.53
- New Valve Cover/Oil Cap/Plug Cover (have to match what you get with a crate) - $252
- New F20C Head From Honda - $2332.09
- Alaniz Valve Job - $800
- Ti Retainers - $300
- Assembly Labor - ~$400
- AEM EMS - $1400
Total for estimated 285-290 Crank HP: $8093 ($6693 without the EMS, but then we'd need to see numbers with a stock ECU to compare).

Whoa! Are you saying $11K with an exchange or $11K outright, no exchange required? Do I part with $11K and get a J's motor, or do I part with $11K, get a J's motor and lose my motor?
If the latter is the case then you can take the cost of new and/or second hand parts out of the local price.
Are you referring to the quote by 1S2K2NV? Is so, please note that he has retracted that quote as it included an AEM EMS. I won't quibble about the valve cover etc, but the price is closer to $6600 if I'm not mistaken.

Enter any corrections where you like but surely this answers your question about why I think the J's motor is over priced.

All I'm saying is that for $8,000 US plus an exchange of a usable rebuildable core plus freight charges, you get a hand assembled, balanced and blueprinted, stroked J's racing 2.2 litre motor with headwork making a claimed 300 ps and 30 kgm. That, in my opinion is a good deal. An even better deal is the Feel's crate motor someone else mentioned for around $7,000 with a claimed 280 ps and no exchange. My argument all along has been the oposite of the people who believe JDM super tuners (like J's, ASM, and Feel's) crate motors are overpriced. I feel these crate motors offer a good deal to those who don't want to much down time from back ups at engine builders and machine shops, and who desire a more powerful sort of stock motor.

But you admit that for about $5K (including core) you could get the same and support your economy? Then you sell your old donk for $2K and your total price is $3K. No down time (except install and tuning). Where am I going wrong here?

You keep referring to the $8093 number. I got my wrist slapped for mentioning it by the author of that quote because even he admits it is inaccurate. That number includes $1400 for an AEM EMS as well as a NEW shortblock and head.
There is no need to 'recall' anything. It was posted two pages back and I quoted it on this very page. It is crap!!!
If you are talking exchange the J's price is $8K and the Alaniz price is $4K (allowing $1000 for tuning ). If you're talking no exchange the J's price is $11K and the Alaniz price is $7K. Either way it's a $4K difference!!!!

I misunderstood your point.
Oh well.
And I'll roll my eyes at who I like. There seems to be some schism here where you can't understand what I'm saying and I'm disregarding everything you say J/K. I'm not even sure that we're arguing the same point anymore
