If this don't work, or has been done already, replace the bearing.

hmmm....to actually lube the splines on the axle, i'd have to rip apart the hub assembly to get to the actual spline part of the axle, right? i thought the only thing that has to be greased is the part where the nut screws onto the axle.....

I don't know by memory, but if the lower ball joint is separated from the knuckle/hub assembly, the knuckle should pull away from the axle. Once the knuckle is pulled far enough away from the axle, the axle should be able to be pulled completely out of the hub. Now the splines can be greased.
