I think this is a problem with just about any filter. My '00 with OEM filter had an engine fire when the filter came loose and spit high pressure oil onto the header.
With the OEM filter there are 2 rings on the filter. The inner ring is a rubber O-Ring the outer ring is steel. The steel ring is meant to hold the rubber O-ring from blowing outward(radial blowout). As the filter loosens the gap between the steel ring and the face of the mounting plane widens. At some point the rubber O-ring squeezes thru the gap, breaking the seal and squirts high pressure oil all over the place. If your lucky like Voodoo_S2K it doesnt squirt onto a glowing hot header.

For folks that are really worried about this and don't run the K&N filter with the handy bolt at the end to run safety wire from:
The trick I used from my racing days was to put a hose clamp around the filter, then run safety wire from the hose clamp. Actually, it's not much of a trick and more like a requirement (at least in motorcycle racing).

Just to bump this,
we had 2 incidents during our track event @ FC04. once caught fire and need new engine, I heard. The other was not as bad but it had ticking sound.
