Issue With Car Revving over 3K

I am new to S2K and I have not found an answer to my question. Hoping someone here may be able to help me.
I own a 2001 S2000 with about 5k (used just during nice weather - I live in the midwest). Anyhow, the car will not rev over 3k. When I hit this point, it is like hitting a rev limiter.
I brough the car to the dealer, and they replaced the plugs due to a recall, and, the issue was fixed for one day - this included driving around for about 50-100 miles and turing the car off and on.
I just started the car today (a few days after it was fixed) and I am having the same problem.
Some more background on the car
I drive it hard occasionally - but, overall, I am pretty easy with it.
It sits for extended period of time - most of the winter in fact with out being driven.
I kept about a half tank of gas in the car over the winter
Battery drained at one point, and I had to recarge it.
I got a code puller and got a code - can't recall the number, but, it suggested an issue with the PCM.
Any thoughts?

The code would have been nice. It appears that your car is going into "limp" mode. The ECU is trying to protect the engine. Did you get a blinking CEL? Usually, this is an indication of a misfire (single or multiple). Can't say for sure without the code number.

This is the code for: "ECU, Internal Circuit Malfunction".
This could mean anything from a temporary glitch to a bad ECU.
It is suggested to reset the ECU.
Turn ignition switch to ON (don't start the engine).
Wait 30 seconds.
Does the code come back?
If YES, substitute a known good ECU and repeat test. If the symptom goes away, you have a bad ECU.
If NO, do the following:
Ignition OFF.
Ignition ON.
Wait 10 seconds.
Does the code come back?
If YES, do as for the first YES.
If NO, Intermittent failure. System is OK at this time.
Do you still have warranty? If so, you should let the dealer take care of this. They should perform the posted tests.

Thanks for the advice. The warrenty is up at this time. However, given the low mileage on the car, I am wondering if they might be a bit flexible? If not, any idea on the cost of a new unit?

A new ECU is listed at about 600 bucks here:

But then there's the issue of getting it to recognize the immobilizer, which the dealer will have to do.

The issue was the ECM. The dealer replaced the part and I am up and running again. Also, just to let people know, the ECM has an 8 year 80K warranty (vs. standard 3yr 36K for the car). The repair was done for free.
Thanks for the help on this point.
