Alright, here's the deal. 02 S2K, 47k on the car. When I cold start it, it runs fine, no noises, sounds just like it should, idle is good and everything. However, after it warms up, I drive it to wherever, shut it off and then start it back up say...15 minutes later there is almost a rattle noise then it turns into a tick. Does anyone know what the hell it could be? I had a valve adjustment done and that didn't do much for it. The tapping doesn't change with RPM's, it stays constant. Could it be the injectors? I don't know what the hell it is. Also, sometimes the RPM's will drop to around 600 and then climb back to 1000.

Oil level is fine, and where can I get a compression test done besides the dealership? Is it something that i can do? What could that tap noise be though?

Until I can get a chance to go to the dealer to have my car looked at, does this sound like it could be a bad valve retainer? I don't want to drive my car around with a bad valve retainer and risk dropping it into the cylinder. (Sorry, i'm reading some of the posts on the site and i'm worrying myself.) Oh yeah, I almost forgot to add in this piece of info, the noise only stays initially after a warm start up, when i put it in gear and take off the noise goes away in a matter of seconds, or if I let it idle for a minute or two it goes away.

it could be many different things. my best bet is to take it to a shop and have them check everything out
