So my 2002 has been having some power steering issues for several months now. Every now and then right hand turns will be totally unassisted by power steering. Turning the wheel to the left is totally normal still. I haven't noticed a consistancy in when the failure takes place accept that it usually occurs at start up and usually returns to normal after driving awhile. Any suggestions for the cause of this besides a failing power steering rack? Thanks for the inputs.

I'm gonna say its either a bent control arm or bad eps unit or the little torque sensor could be bad or stuck, talk to billman250 he's pretty good with anything s2000 mechanical

I am thinking the part in the TS that moves up and down is sticking. I have yet to take one apart.
So DCmonkey, if the EPS control unit does not fix your car, we will pull the torque sensor and check that part.
Dcmonkeys car is giving full assist in one direction only. It makes sense that that part might be stuck. The TS has a mechanical part that slides up and down. This is read by a sensor. If this part were to stick, it would energize the motor in one direction only.
Electronics dont usually intermit. If it does it cold, it points more towards the TS.
On dannys car, it is present at all times. We also cannot complete the neutral re-learn or an EPS reset. And I just did it on a car the day before so I know I am spot on with the procedure. So dannys car is pointing more towards a control unit.
