Default Intake manifold cover

I've somehow managed to sheer off one of the bolts that holds the intake manifold cover on. How important is it to have the cover? What does it actually protect against?

At the moment I'm more worried about the fact that the bolt dropped down into my engine bay (don't want to crank the car until I find it); but I'm sure I'll stumble across it sooner or later.

The black plastic cover with the two acorn nuts is purely cosmetic. No harm to take it off.

Excellent; that's good news. Now if I can only find the bolt (well, bolt and half of the threaded metal thing the bolt goes on)...

Yah, I was pretty sure that's where it went, and I couldn't think of anywhere that it could go that would cause an issue, so I took a risk and cranked it up and didn't hear the sound of anything being destroyed. Still wish I could find the thing though.

Thanks for your help.

There is a black hole in the S2000 engine bay where all nuts and bolts fall and you will never see them again. I can't tell you how many parts I've lost down there, including some sockets. If you ever drop the front subframe you just might find them though , lol.
