Default Intake Hyrdolock Question AEM v1 vs V2

people have many ideas for umbrellas and what not to prevent water from collecting in the first elbow of the intake especially on the AEM v2. I have two questions though.

Anyone with the V1 that can tell if its angled the same?

If so would the bypass valve prevent hydrolock from standing water, or is that only meant for complete submersion? Hence leaving the umbrella idea the only way to almost totally prevent drained water causing a hydrolock?

thanks for your input

I dont know if this might help you. I had the K&N typhoon on my car for over a year driving in the rain with no problem. I recently took it off to put on my supcharger. It came with a water repellant cover for the filter so if water would drip down onto it the water would roll off the cover and not get into the filter. You can buy the covers from any of the intake manufacturers and they are a good precaution.

well my intake is coming with the AEM bypass valve, but I thought that was only actuated in the event of total submersion. I may buy the umbrella too just to make sure. I think R-active also makes filters that are incased in plastic with just the front open, this would probably work as well (despite the fact that ractive is garbage)

there's always a risk of hydrolock if you are running CAI, it happens and when it does happen you are looking at couple grand of repair. it doesn't have to be a large body or water also, just the right amount, right timing(or wrong time i should say) and bam..

bypass valve will work, but they are pretty weak and alot of them fall apart(that's AEM's bypass valve, not the cheap knock off) and they decrease the gain from the intake.

not sure how well the cover thing works but if you have enough water, that thing will not able to "hold back" the water for sure.
