oh..i doubt it caused the problem...i agree with you on that.

BUT...5.2 WITH filter change will put you at LOW. with filter change you need upwards of 5.5 at least.

still speculating that with LOW oil and vtecing the shet out of it may cause some sort of problem.

yes sir, i change the oil on the S.

it's always taken MORE than 5.5 quarts, especially with the filter change.

my question to you...after an oil change, do you start the car, let it run, and check the oil again after a couple minutes?

you'll probably have to add more oil after that as well.

5 quarts after drain, and filter change will put you at low, and vtecing in every gear may cause a small issue...

i re-read the OP's first post...

and he said he ALWAYS changes the oil himself...and if he ALWAYS only uses 5 quarts...

we've got a problem.

Ok...

You didn't seem so sure before?

absolutly I do, but i have done it so many times that I almost never need to add any....I get it right the first time at 5 quarts and about a quarter of the 6th....which equates to 5.2

I got to give this guy more credit then that, if he were smart he would be checking his oil regularly regardless. The S uses oil, some more then others, it needs to be checked. If it is low after a change he shouldn't be changing it. But foremost, If this problem was caused by lack of oil, the problem wouldn't be isolated to just the intake lobes of the cam. We don't even know if the came is whats making the noise! You guys are steering us off track here with this lack of oil senario being the cause. I haven't heard any info yet that would tell me this is the cause of the problem. If your going to be grabbing for straws here atleast grab some big ones that we can work with.

I disagree with you. After an oil & filter change, I put in 5 quarts. Then I let it sit and check it. It's usually about 1/3 of the way between Low & High. I add less than 1/2qt and it's sitting right at the High mark. And it stays there even after I start the engine and check it again.

Either way, I'm pretty sure you have to be well below the low mark before you do damage (unless you're pulling high Gs and starve the oil pickup). If he put in 5 quarts, he's nowhere near that point. Also, if his oil pressure was truly low enough to do damage, I'm pretty sure it would've been at the point that VTEC wouldn't engage, and he probably would've mentioned that.

well, like i said before,

i doubt low oil is what caused the problem.

just throwing you guys off track by mentioning 5 quarts is not enough after complete drain + filter.

Just as an FYI, I have an AP2 and 5.2 quarts will get me to the very top X of the dipstick. As mentioned previously, this is exactly what the manual says with an oil and filter change.

Yes, I change my own oil. And Yes, I check my oil religiously. Don't burn any measurable amount and I'm at the top X. But I have to admit that I don't let the car sit for the entire night to let it drain completely bone dry before I add in the new oil.
