Intake Box
Do people leave the top of the air box on or take it off? It seems to me that the cone would get more air and maybe even resonate better if it was taken off. I am sure it will get dirtier but I don't know. I don't want to change out the intake so I was just curious what other people do with their stock ones.

I've given that some thought too. With top of the airbox removed, I would think that the intake would get warmer air from the raidiator flow and that doesn't help.
The idea is to get a generous flow of the coolest air the intake can find. The idea that I've been tossing around lately was looking at a way of routing air scooped by the bumber inlet up to the stock air box. Granted, there are kits out there but the Injen requires a bit of carving... the Comptech (sp?) seems like the best as it requires no major carving of the stook's front end and it pulls cool air from the passenger side fender.
This year, my goal is to get cool air into the manifold and also to drop the intake manifold temp through the isolation gasket and coolant block.
So, I don't believe that popping the top on the airbox will help. I've done it, and I do hear the growl, but my butt-dyno doesn't detect any improvements worth writing about.
Have fun!

I've heard that the MUZ snorkel requires a bit of cutting under the front hood to make room for the hump-over.

Ok. I have it on a good source that the MUZ requires a bit of shaving under the front part of the hood for clearance. However, I've never exchanged words with anyone who has really installed a Muz.
BUT!!! I did find an interesting product today on S2ki! It is a carbon-fiber piece that is a shroud over the entire area before the radiator with a "snorkel" that fits directly to the stock airbox (with a removed funnel intake). The seller/manufacturer claims absolutely NO cutting required and the price seems right.

hmmm....
Actually, I see the snorkel of this product attaching to the stock stook intake funnel.
What is best about the stock stook intake is its resonant chaimbers that reduce the growl. If we can get cool air shoved into the intake AND have a better high-flow filter, we'd appreciate some better throttle response... I should think.
