My 2001 has the Comptech CAI. Installation is a breeze and I think the gains from 4000 to 6000 rpm were noticable. Sounds unreal with stock exhaust.

I know the Comptech intake will get you a dyno-proven 3hp, but does anyone know what just a drop-in K&N air filter will do in the factory airbox? My guess would be something close to the 3hp gain for a lot less money...but I would love to see some hard numbers.

What are you talking about jumping down someones throat? I made one post in this thread making no comments toward anyone else. On another note, I did use the search button and read threads for over an hour and found no numbers regarding exact power increase. I found some threads saying power seems a bit better and intake has gotten louder, but that is all. Now, if you have a problem with me or anything I post, please by all means take it up with me privately and I am sure we can come to a resolution. If you know where I can obtain the information I am looking for I would appreciate you linking me.

On a car like ours, the average "background noise" (error) of a dyno is around 5 whp (give or take), so when you see "posted" numbers saying that a given intake gains you 3 HP, how much do you want to believe? Unless you see claims of more than about 5 HP gain, it's just "fluff", advertising and selective number crunching.

OK thanks a lot. I also noticed on Comptech's site they list their drop-in filter giving increases of 2-3 hp so I was really beginning to wonder about their $300 airbox. My guess is that Honda knew what they were doing with the design of the factory paper filter. I do apologize if some of my questions are repetitive, but I do search for answers before posting. I am/was a moderator of a couple DSM boards (involved with that community for 4 years) so I deffinately know the feeling of new people coming in and asking basic questions that you have already heard numerous times over.
