Default Installing clutch

I have decided to install a new clutch in my 01 S2000. I have an Extended warranty but my local Honda dealer thinks that the buzz in my clutch is a wear issue. I have changed a few clutches in my life but have no idea what I will be getting into. I have all winter to complete the install and would like to know if there is any good repair manuals that would help me complete this task. I am looking forward to hearing from any one who has changed the clutch in their s2000 so I have an idea on the best way to get this done. Thanks to any who can help,

Nick Bigger

You need a Helm manual. Here is the grandfather of clutch threads..

The "buzz" may get worse as the clutch springs get older but it's not a wear item. It's just the springs vibrating in response to something that begins in the transmission and works its way to clutch disc.

If you look in the FAQs at the top of UTH, you'll find a thread that outlines how to do this job.

I know it's been a while since you posted about playing with clutch springs but I'm wondering how's your modified clutch disc working for you in terms of buzzing?

IMO, just varying the spring characteristics/layout may not be the best way to tackle the problem. I think it'd be better to attack the problem by not letting the springs bottom-out and bind. Figure a way to insert some "bumpstops" capable of high-temp inside the springs if feasible. There're 2 different types of factory miata clutch discs. Seems like the ones with springs in 4 locations are more likely to buzz especially with light flywheel, while the ones with 4 springs plus 2 bumpstops (6 equally-spaced locations on the disc) are less likely to do so.

Also, I would be cautious to put the disc back together such that it won't explode at 9000rpm.
