Installed Prosport oil pressure gauge
Hey guys,
Just had a few questions regarding my install of my oil pressure gauge yeserday.
1. I used a sandwich plate on the oil filter to tap the oil pressure. I attached the sender to the unit and sealed it off with some gasket maker. Also sealed off the other 3 bolts on the plate to prevent any type of oil leaks. That sound good or is there somthing else I should do to prevent leaks?
2. I tightened up the oil sandwich plate to 30 pounds of torque? Is that good enough?
3. Gauge characteristics:
When the car is cold, its pegged at 105-110psi. When it warms up, goes to around 40-50psi. When I start to accelerate under 3k, its around 75-80psi. When I accelerate over 4k, it goes to around 105psi close to 110 which is the max. Is that normal? I wish it wasnt so close to the max of the unit but I heard sandwich plates might cause your readings to be a bit higher.
4.
Understanding the gauge. Basically, If i notice while accelerating that it drops to 80 psi when normally its been at 100-110psi, is that when I need to check the oil level?
Thank you,

I have the same gauge. I got it installed into the oil sending unit.
That pressure sounds very very very very high. I'm sure the gauge is off or something isn't right.
Cold start mine will idle at like 70psi
Warmed up it will sit and idle at a bit above 20psi.
Normal cruising will sit at 60psi.
From what I've read my numbers seem in the same range as most.

Different gauges will read differently. The price point will tell you how accurate it will be. You should use teflon tape instead of gasket maker. It wont ooze out where you dont want it when you tighten bolts. I'm running a Greddy gauge and it reads a little lower than rikhemi's. Max pressure is around 100psi and fully warmed idle is a little under 20 psi.
