Default Input Shaft Bearing or Throwout Bearing Failure

Does anyone have experience with either Input Shaft Bearing failure or Throwout Bearing failure? I may be experiencing one of the two. Looking for any first hand descriptions of the noises or behavior of either of these. Anyone currently experiencing one of them, a video or sound byte would be fantastic. Just trying to diagnose the problem outside of a shop. Thank you.

The Throwout Bearing on my car went out last year. I took it to a mechanic who was familiar with the s2000 and was told that it's a common issue on the AP2s.

I have been driving the car with the bad bearing for about 8000 miles now, and the noise is awful, but the clutch engages and shifts perfectly fine. I'm getting the whole clutch replaced in a month though.

This is the exact type of info I'm looking for, thank you. I'm still not totally sure, but mine sounds like it could possibly be the beginning stages of this. I'm still curious what the IPS bearing failure sounds like, as descriptions of the symptoms I've heard seem like what I'm experiencing too. When this was still in the beginning stages, did you notice the sound less when the car was still cold and got worse as it got warm? Thanks again.

Yes, the sound was not there when the car was cold because the RPM was still around 2000-2200. As the car warmed up and RPM dropped to around 1100-1300, it was more noticeable.

Another thing was when I stepped on the gas and the RPM went back up to around 2000-2500, the sound was completely gone.

I know there is a way to see if your clutch is bad by putting the car in 3rd when you're going around 10-15 mph and then flooring the gas pedal, if the car revs but the speed doesn't go up, then your clutch is bad. If the clutch struggles but revs with the speed, your clutch is good. (I'm not sure about the exact speed) Billman might know better.

Gotcha. This is pretty much how mine is behaving, although my clutch doesn't seem to be bad. May just be in the early stages. I'm just hoping it's that and not the ISB, I'm assuming that would be a much more expensive fix than replacing the clutch.

Same thing happened to my Civic. Throw Out Bearing was going bad, and would chirp terribly (even on cold start) if I disengaged the clutch. It still shifted completely smooth though and engaged with no problems.

I don't really know if it would ever escalate to an actual performance problem...
