i would've left the headlights alone and not painted anything. hopefully you don't have to get a new set due if you ruined the current pair...

Did you sand the chrome? Apply adhesion promoter?

the problem was, my friend tried to clean the chrome ring, with windex, and it peeled the chrome off.

so he primered, then painted, and the reflection made it peel.

so we resprayed them today, and clearcoated them, now i need to figure out if there is a way to put the crhome back, like a chrome or reflective tape.

Unfortunately, once you remove the chrome, its extremely hard to find a similar replacement. Chrome spray looks nothing like chrome, chroming is an extensive process.

Good luck with that though.

The chrome comes off very easily. So you primed and painted over the chrome that comes off very easily...so naturally it bubbled and cracked. Sand the chrome completely off, then paint with a high temp paint.

well we actually sanded down all of the chrome, then painted. we didnt use clear coat. then it peeled. so we resprayed, and cleared it, so its got a shiny finish, i actually like it better than the dull, and there is this stuff called trim brite chrome brite ( t1818 ) , it's high heat, chrome tape. i think that would definitely do the trick around the headlights. the chrome is there to reflect of the projector, i think without, no matter what, the paint will peel eventually.

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.a...15&autoview=sku

and

http://www.trimbrite.com/PDFs/Catalog12-13.pdf

Which, that would actually look almost like oem, since the oem obviously is just a chrome paint, rather than chrome plate.
