improper gear break in
a friend of mine has an 01 and after he drove my geared s2k he got the 4.56's and had them installed at a local shop. he did the break-in with the 3 heat cycles and then after that he drove home (about 30miles from the shop) and figured break in was over, he said he got up to about 100-120 and redlined through 1,2,3 and 4 a FEW TIMES!!! when he told me this i was because i told him to take it easy for a few hundred miles. What potential damage has he caused and is there anything he can do to fix his problem after the fact (i suggested maybe change the fluid and just do the proper break-in from now on but i dont know if thats correct. please help my friend

Not sure if any damage has been done or what you can do about it if there is any. I would suggest you do a fluid change now. Make sure you examine the stuff on the magnet really closely and also collent the old fluid in a clean container and examine it carefully. These will tell you a lot about anything that may have happened.
Do the change after about an hour of driving so the fluid is hot and can flow out quickly and bring all the gunk with it.

on another note my gears still have minor humming and i think i have about 300,400 miles on mine, i did the proper break-in and drove the car easily and still do, the humming is between 65-70 or so and stops if i lift off the throttle then comes back again if i give throttle. Anyone have ideas on how to get the humming to stop? thanks

The fluid will tell you a lot. One of the things you don't want to do is get them too hot. Richmond recomends a warm up cool down type break in.
Regarding noise, you might check with Jcarlton. He has a new polishing technique that goes with his cyro treatments. He claims reduced noise.
