Default Idle Air Control Valve

First, I just wanted to introduce myself to everyone. My name is Raymund and I've been working on cars (all hondas) for quite some time. My first car was a turbo civic (95 coupe), then a 89 CRX Si, and most recently, a 94 Integra LS...A month ago, while working, this lady in a minivan rear ended me and caused some damage to my car...I was given $2700 for the damages and was on my way to get a civic HB, when my brother n law convinced me to check out this S2000 at this dealership down his street...So i test drove it and, being my dream car, used $2000 as a down...its a 2000 silverstone metallic with 37000 miles on it...it was $19xxx and it has been worth it for the first week that i've owned it...

With my quick introduction out of the way, I just had a quick question...Driving home this morning at 5am, cruising at about 80, my CEL came on out of no where...The car drove fine and I cruised at a steady 60mph to get home, which was about another 10 miles away...As I came near my home at a stop light, I noticed my revs going from 1500-2000 bouncing up and down...I stop at a 7-11 to get a newspaper and start the car and the car idles fine, but the CEL stays on...So i get home, jump the connector with the paper clip and get a code 14...I look it up and it the IAC valve...I reset the ECU and the light turned off, took it for a drive and 2 miles later, light came back on with the same idle problem...My question is, is this a common problem for the 2000 models? The car has been running perfectly fine for the past week that I've owned the car and it just happened so randomly...I'll be taking it to the dealer tomorrow, hopefully, to get it checked out...Hopefully its nothing too serious and the IAC will be replaced and taken care of....I'm just trying to get info on why it would go out that easily...

THANK YOU for reading my long story
Raymund

Bad IAC valve/solenoid has been reported but it's not common. They usually will give an audible sign that something is wrong. The ones I've heard about will "tick" when trying to stabilize idle.

BTW, I had this type of behavior before on an Integra, and it was due to my throttle cable not having enough slack.

Not sure about the S, but its a common problem on older Acura's. Happens to a bunch of cars on the lot every winter.

Hmmm....my friend is have the same problem on his. It started right after his 60k checkup...which included a vavle adjustment?

Should I check the throttle cable? I got the same code as Infinity Racer, just without the weird idle problem.

Any help? Thanks!

well i spoke with the dealer earlier today and they told me the IACV was fine...the problem was a faulty ECU and it was covered under the Honda warranty, which for the ECU was 8 years/80,000 miles...so now i'm just waiting for them to order a new one and install it and hopefully everything would be fine...

Are they sure it is the ECU, or is that just their next attempt at a solution? If they didn't actually put a new ECU in it, then they are still just guessing. Did you check to make sure you have anough slack in the throttle cable, and that the butterfly is closing all the way?

Either way, the new ECU will result in more power if they are getting an '02+ ECU.
