Default I only burn used oil

I find that the first 1,500 miles after an oil change that the car doesn't use a drop. Then a small amount to 2,000 miles post change, and from 2,000 to 3,000 uses another quart. I'm thinking of changing it every 2000 like I was told to do as a kid. I know oil is better now, and the engines are also improved, but it seems the car is telling me go back to every 2,000 miles. Any comments about changing more frequently than manufacture advice?

The last time I saw that was in the '70s when I was using Quaker State. We dubbed it "Quaker-Stating your car" meaning that it seemed to break down faster than it should have, risking engine damage. Of course, we didn't have scientific proof but... Since switching exclusively to synthetic oil (Mobil 1) in the late '70s, I've had no such problem.

Just as long as you keep an eye on the oil level you will be fine. The only time you should worry about your engine burning significant amounts of oil is when you are going through numerous amounts of quarts in-between oil changes (you would also see a lot of blue smoke while you were driving). The reason that the oil level drops in the S2000 from time to time is because it is a super high-revving engine. Viscosity and thermal dynamics come into play - but to put it mildly, the engine will burn some of the oil simply because of the characteristics of the engine itself. Just be a conscious owner and things will be alright.
