...of the electrical kind that is!

Where is the best place to sources 12V of the purest, non-fused power in the S2000 cabin?

I am looking to power up a device in the boot which requires 2 amps at startup then drops to about 0.8 for the rest of the time. I'd rather not run a wire from the battery as getting through the firewall looks messy.

Under the dash on the drivers side (RHD) is a fuse box with two rows of fuses. On the left side of the box there are 3 empty slots at the bottom. Does one side of these have 12V? Do I connect to it with a spade connector?

I'll use an inline fuse for protection.

I did not have problems running a power cable from the battery in the engine compartment to the trunk area. When you remove the battery there is a rubber grommet just below and behind the battery space that already has a bunch of wires running through it. The inside of this grommet was easy to reach from the cabin. Don't confuse this recommended grommet with one that is higher up on the firewall, easily visible above the battery in the engine compartment, but unreachable from inside the cabin. I ran the power cable along the passenger-side sill.

Disclaimer - this information is for our North America left-hand drive variant. I'm curious to hear if this works for your RHD car.

AusS2000,

According to the manual everything in the under dash is fused from the 40A in the under botton fuse box.

When I fitted my cruise control I had to take the control wires into the cabin. I used the mmain grommet below the battery on the passenger side. This wasn't too hard to get to after rwemoving the battery and it wasn't to hard to run the 6 wires wrapped in tape through the grommet with the aid of a piece of wire and silicon oil. I would expect that using either 4G or 8G wire as for big amps would be about the same dianmeter as I pulled through.

Under the bonnet you have all sorts of choices including a straight fused power feed off the battery.

I have the full manual if you want to borrow yto photocopy the bits you need. email me.

You have Cruise Control? Is this the Honda one or one of those Rostra ones I keep seeing advertised?

I would either like to install the Honda one (if any of you racers have removed it), or a Rostra with the Honda dash and steering wheel switches.

Are you going on the HSCC drive next weekend?

To power radio transmitters in my Prelude, I run huge, thick copper from the battery to the cabin. The fuses are in line in the positive lead. I'd never want to use the car's wiring harness for high amp applications.

Thanks Col.

I ran my power from the battery, through an inline fuse, through the grommet you mentioned. I had to make a small nick in the sleeve and push it through, then put insulation over it.

I've still got power problems so I'll probably run another lead to the amp so I get nice clean power.

Hope to see you on the weekend.
