I need electronic real-time values of RPM, Speed, Gear, and Throttle Amount.. anyone?

I need electronic real-time values of RPM, Speed, Gear, and Throttle Amount.. anyone?
I'm not an electronic or mechanical engineer but sometimes I have software projects that I am dying to work on that require some of that expertise. I know there's a lot of smart & experienced people here who fit that bill, so I'm just curious if there is a device out there that I can hook up to my car so that software I write can make use of the following real-time inputs:
RPM
Speed
Selected Gear
Throttle Amount
1) Is this even possible, especially the gear & throttle amount inputs?
2) What would I need to get said inputs into my software? (i.e. how would I convert such a device's outputs into inputs for my software to make use of?)
Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

OBD-II scan tool... there are several out there, some run on PC's, others on PDA's, but most cost you money. ask the people in your area if they have one you can borrow....
