I miss shifted.

Miss-shift where transmission is engaged, (as in shifting from 4th to 5th, missing 5th and instead shifts to 3rd, and clutch is released) forces the engine to mechanically rev higher.
Miss-shift where transmission is NOT engaged, engine revs to stock rev limit from throttle input, and stops due to fuel cut off. Usually not a problem on internally stock motors.
NOTE: a throttle input over rev can cause damage if the rev limit has been increased, or aftermarket cams are used that increase lift. Piston to valve clearance needs to be measured when using aftermarket cams.
Aftermath of mechanical over rev and piston to valve contact:
You should be ok

If you really want to know pull the valve cover and take a look. There are plenty of pictures of cracked retainers if you use the search function. The more you know about the car the better off you are, buy the manual and start reading. While the valve cover is off you can check the valve clearance.
Good luck

I wouldn't be inclined to do that either (rev to cutoff in neutral) all day long. I'm confident the OP is OK, though if he did what he described. As far as the pics above^^^^
OUCH!
OUCH!
I've realized lately that people keep saying 'its okay, but don't do it too much' and provide absolutely no explanation to this claim. So, I asked about it:
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.ph...&f=22&t=455566 ("bouncing off the fuel-cutoff"), and it seems that there is absolutely no damage done to the engine when you bounce off of the fuel cutoff.
Don't get me wrong.
-There are no gains.
-Its not the best point to shift.
But, if someone hits it, they should hit it with a clear conscience and not be misinformed. There is no danger to it. If one wishes, he or she may hit it all day long to their hearts content and without worry.
