Well when you burn lots of oil when using Mobil1 and then switch to another oil and don't it's pretty obvious lol.

Really begs the question: why is that?

Problem: Oil consumption
Solution: Some owners have said that a catch can has solved the issue.
Fact: Several S2000 owners have reported a oil consumption issue with Mobile 1.
Fact: Early AP1's (1999-2003) have a reputation of burning oil while in Vtec.

This is a reoccurring topic that is covered in the 'Under The Hood' subforum stickies. Because of this, I am going to ask the OP to reference those sources.

With ap2's Honda started boring the cylinders with dummy head plates torqued in place, not done on ap1 engines, thus more chance of oil getting by due to less perfect cylinders on ap1's. Without beating on Mobil1, maybe some oil formulas just work better than others in these conditions. Keep in mind that within a 30 weight oil spec you can have thin thirty weights that end up shearing down to 20 weights, and you can have thicker 30 weight oils that don't end up shearing as thin through the oil change interval. Mobil1 has been known to start out on the thinner side on some of their oil weights, perhaps that has something to do with it on these engines. I still consider Mobil1 to be a high quality synthetic oil regardless, but I've been very happy with Amsoil that I'll keep running it into the future. I don't mean to push any oil on anyone.

Honda also re-designed the pcv system on ap2's to reduce oil ingestion into the intake system , thus ap1's have more of a chance of oil being sucked through the intake in certain driving conditions.

An extra 1000 rpms of redline can lead to higher oil consumption on ap1's as well for people that take advantage of the higher redline on a regular basis. You get harsher cylinder conditions for a longer period of time causing more oil to seep by and more oil to burn off.

Just my $.02, don't ask me to prove any of these theories though.

all i am trying to say, is that just because switching to another oil = burning less, doesn't mean that mobil 1 was the cause of the issue in the first place

I’ve seen a direct correlation between mobile1 and oil consumption. It thins out and atomizes. Most of the consumption is through the PCV line. Any other synthetic I have run doesn’t burn nearly as much, and the same has gone for the multiple cars I’ve recommended the change for as well. It ‘s a good oil, it just gets too runny.

I don't care what oil you use always and I mean ALWAYS check your oil at every fill up and this goes for every other car you have... paper towel $3-$5 for a 3 pack, engine $3,000+ time and/or labor to have installed...... you do the math. you have to wait while your car is being filled up anyways so check it then. it only takes 1 min to pop your hood and pull a dipstick wipe it then re-insert dipstick and then remove and look at level.

In most cases it is with this car however. Mobil1 tends to be thinner and break down quicker causing it to burn off much easier.
