Thanks for the input everyone. Brakes feel great, but I will monitor daily for leaks. Makes more sense now that they are actually 10mm not 12mm, just different head size. The calipers aren't rusted - they look fine. The metal on the bleeder valves is so soft that the previous owner rounded the head really well. Had to use vice grips to remove them.
