First thing id say to do is see if engine turns over by hand like what B serious said.
This should give you a clear next step biased on how it goes.

In your case I don't think it's that simple. I hear "rattling increases on throttle" and my first guess is rod knock.

If you don't see anything on the valve cover, drain the oil and see what you get. If you see metal shavings, well, my condolences.
This is my inclination as well.

Thanks for everyone's input, I'm getting it into my storage unit to get up on my lift.

I'll check the oil and turning the crank by hand and go from there.

I've got some good starting points. Thanks for all the advice.

hello all

i finally got it up here this past weekend. i didn't get a chance to drain the oil, probably will tomorrow.

i can't turn the crank with anything. is it possible something connected to the serpentine is seized and not the engine? wishful thinking i believe. my current thoughts are a slipped lower bearing on cylinder 1.

something odd, oil light did not come on when the engine stalled, but dipstick shows no oil? last oil change was about a 1,000 miles ago at a local Bruneel Point S.



one of the spark plugs look like cylinder 1 has been having incomplete combustion, or oil leakage? lots of carbonization compared to the other plugs. right most is cylinder 1 back to 4 on the left.



here's a video of me scoping of the cylinders. cylinder 1 seems higher than where it's supposed to be? lots of carbonization. order of scoping in video is 1 to 4

I recall that issue being related to a bad thrust bearing that moves and prevents the crank from turning. That is the most likely culprit. The unfortunate part is that failed thrust bearings can sometimes cause a lot of damage which is difficult or near impossible to repair , I might be wrong on that but I have heard that from others.

well like i said in the post when i came to come to a stop the engine just went down to 0 rpm and then wouldnt crank after....so the failure didn't sound catastrophic....

reading another thread someone said low oil lead to a ticking noise....i had a ticking.....maybe some oil getting burned through my piston seals? the engine has almost 130k on it......no clue the history before 100k when i bought it....

might be combination low oil lead to thrown thrust bearing....will wait for more people to chime in....
