Default I found a bolt floating around my engine bay...

So I found a bolt floating around my engine bay, lodged underneath my intake manifold. I’m hoping somebody might know where it came from?

While fishing it out, I also found what looks like a missing bolt....

Does anybody know what that is? It’s got threading in the hole. It’s tough to get a photo, but the bolt next to it has the “10” looking logo on it, as opposed to the “8.8” on the loose bolt I found under the hood.

It doesn't look like a factory Honda bolt, but it is meant to go through a thicker sized part given the size of the smooth shaft, so for something like a throttle body or idle air control valve or something like that. Make sure all of the intake manifold bolts are in place too.

Too big for IAC, but it could definitely be one of the underside Manifold bolts. I’ll try to get eyes on them all tomorrow. Thanks for the starting point!

as for the “missing” bolt. I THINK that’s the auto tensioner bracket, and from the parts diagram, it looks like it’s supposed to be an open hole?

Can anybody confirm?

Does your car have one of those phenolic intake manifold spacers ? they are notorious for coming loose. If you can't see all of the lower manifold bolts you can reach under and feel/count each one.

Damn... that is a $10 word, I had to look it up. Even after doing so, I’m not 100% if I do or not. I know the head was rebuilt by the PO, with quite a few short cuts and an overall haphazard approach. I’ve found missing bolts in the engine mounts, diff mounts and sway bar retainers. How can I tell if I have such a spacer?

The factory intake manifold gasket is a thinner light tan colour material, the phenolic spacers are thicker white plastic gaskets. Look at the area between the intake manifold and the head where the gasket is normally compressed, see what colour and material is evident. Intake manifold bolts come loose often when the spacers are used, people use them to reduce heat transfer between the head and intake manifold, but they are not reliable.

It's not an OEM bolt so look for aftermarket parts where it might have been used.
I see a big red spacer for the throttle body, any missing bolts there?
I think the threaded hole in your second pic (and one more) is used for the intake manifold bracket 17126-PCX-000

^ the bolt could have been used for the manifold support bracket, but if the bracket is missing then they may have dropped the bolt and left it there,

Might have been used to hold down the air box.

The bolt you are seeing with the "10" marking on it is likely a grade 10.9 metric bolt (hex head or flange bolt). It is the equivalent of a grade 8 SAE bolt.

The bolt you found is a somewhat lower grade 8.8 hex head metric bolt (equivalent to a grade 5 in SAE). Note the 3/8 inch size washer on it. That would suggest that a previous owner was involved with this bolt.
