have to agree most of the hot air , even if using a cold air plate or intake duct will be from the soak into the airbox or air pipe as at idle the airvolume is low
the best you can do is like some people did before use radmat or similar to insulate the intake, but its not pretty to look at

This does look interesting. One thing I always wondered about with the snorkel (had planned on getting one next spring), was the proximity of it's opening to the road surface. Not regarding sand/grit/water though, but tarmac heat. On days when it gets hot out the road itself can get pretty damn hot from the sun and tire friction. From accounts the snorkel does indeed help, but I would have to think that picking air up from a higher location would be more beneficial even at the expense of any "ram air" effect loss?
