After some of the issues I have had with bolts rattling out I think that that was probably the case. It happens a lot with the exhaust bolts. A lot of the time tightening them down good isn't enough. You probably need some lock tight or something stronger. But even if those bolts did all come out I doubt it would do any damage. You would need to pull over and get a tow but all you would end up having to do is put new bolts in. there is actually a brace to even catch the driveshaft if 1 end falls.

Also remember that you never want to over tighten a bolt. Once you tighten it past yield, it stretches and will never be as tight as it was properly torqued.

If you don't plan on lowering the car, I'd recommend removing the spacers and reploacing those bolts with stock bolts. Also make sure you torque them to spec and you should be alright. I can believe that someone could/would leave the car in that condition...their attitude was that they were selling it, so it wasn't their problem any more. As others have said, I'd give the car a good going over, there may be other things wrong.
