Hydrolock - Steps to Fix
I hydrolocked my car a little while ago. I have an CAI Injen, it was raining pretty hard, but the puddle was only 8 inches at the deepest. I went pretty slow through because i didnt want to hydro plane, and the car stalled out. I also didnt have any fender lining in that month, this was the biggest cause of the hydrolock. it never happened to me before and didn't know what you were supposed to do. Rather i should say, i didn't know what i shouldn't do, because while i was still standing in water, i hit the crank until i heard a loud CHINK sound - sound of pressured metal connecting...
Bilman was nice enough to help me out and walk my through some possible things, take the spark plugs out and crank the water out hoping that nothing's bent yet. That didnt work, he said try and turn the crank by hand while the spark plugs are still out because it should'nt have any resistance with the plugs out, but that thing will not budge, in either direction. He said 'hell at this point throw em back in an try and fire it up" i have not tried to do that tho...
I have a mechanic i know who will rebuild the motor for me if it will save me some money as apposed to buying another engine. He said take the head off and have it sent out to me. The only downside is that i would have to pay someone to take it out and than have it shipped up. Now im hearing a bunch of different things, two people at honda being the true salemen they actually are, said that it will need a new engine entirely. Someone here said if you can't turn the crank its a rod for sure and sending out the head wont do much. Will what's my next step? I need to pull out the head to see whats going on with it anyway...what should be my next action? My mechanic said the problem should be in the head because the power of the crank isn't like plowing through the puddle at 20 mph but who knows. Any suggestions on where the damage typically lies?
WHAT should be my next course of action? pull the head and inspect it see if the problem is within? Buy a new bottom end?

Your mechanic is stupid I would avoid him at all costs, do NOT let him fix anything. He does not understand engine dynamics and made a completely incompetent statement. That incompetence will also shine brightly in your rebuilt engine.
The problem is 100% the lower end of the engine. Something is serverely bent or broken.
I guess you could pull the head and check the head itself to see if its ok, the head is most likely ok and you'll want to keep it.
Find an engine. Trust me. I would find one with a head in turn key condition.
If you buy an engine without a head, that means the engine was taken apart for a reason.

whats the price of the work vs finding a used engine? i seen an ap2 engine today with 55k miles for $2700 shipped. engine being fully rebuilt will cost more than that.
good luck
good luck
Hope you can get it fixed and back on the road soon man. Also if you post in the WTB section, there are sometimes people that have a good condition f22 shortblock, thats how I found mine.
