Hurricane Sandy Gas Advice please!?
So i live in central NJ and today is an even day so i can go buy gas. Apparently all the local stations are no longer selling premium(93) or midgrade(91) only regular(87). I have about 1/3 of a tank of premium left, and after reading through the manual i noticed that the ecu will retard the engine and allow you to run regular and be ok.
My question(s) is/are how long can i do this for without doing damage to the engine? Should i buy octane booster and add it with each tank or would that be worse then just sticking with the regular? Just trying to ease my mind at what will be best for the car, especially after waiting an hr(or more) to finally buy some gas.
P.S.- Sandy, i hate you.

as the manual says, you'll be fine..... you will notice slightly less power but even if you redline it, you won't hurt it.
I'd take it easy but wouldn't worry in the least about it---just switch back to premium when it's available

Check out the threads in the NY Metro forum, people there have been reporting statuses all week. Check out hessexpress.com and you can see their fuel amounts at their stations. It looks like they update the document in real time or close to it.
Depending on where you are in Central NJ, gas may only be 10-20 miles from you. I live near Trenton, and gas has been available here for days, with just about no lines. I haven't had to fill us the S, as I've been using my other car, so the 93 question I can't answer, which may or may not help you.
I'm in Mercer county, so no rationing either.
Maybe check some of the stations closest by calling and confirming they have 93?

Thanks for the responses. I am in Somerset county and unfortunately the gas lines are still around luckily not as bad anymore. I called a few stations around here and found a Valero Near here that actually had some premium left! They cut you off at $15 but thats more then enough. Thanks again, hope everyone else is doing alright.
