Humming/Whirring Sound Coming from the Rear

So the noise was bearable for almost the whole summer but was getting loud enough that I was able to hear it top down. I figured it was an improper install of the wheel bearing and when I removed the knuckle assembly to take to a shop w/ a bearing press, I noticed right away that the bearing was installed backwards

No pics but the black side of the bearing was facing the knuckle and not the hub. Bingo.

I made sure the shop installed the shop installed the new bearing the correct way and now I'm completely abnormal noise free.

The old bearing made noise when you'd turn the hub and when the mechanic showed it to me, I could see a fair amount of wear on the "outer" race (in fact it was the inner race but since it was backwards it was on the outside)

Now that it's cold and I can't top down as much I'm glad the noise is gone and I can have my sanity back

I remember reading this about the same time I got my car thinking it could have been a wheel bearing.
