but....if i put the stock airbox on, it still makes the humming noise....is there just no way to get the sound to go away?
You put on another stock box to check? I though you cut the divider out of yours and punched a hole on the side? I'm wondering if it's just simply the fact that the hum was always there, but now that you've modified things, you could hear it well and since you know what it sounds like, you can't NOT hear it.

i have two stock boxes. one that is unmodified, and one that is.

the humming noise started when i put the modified box on, drove around the block, and opened the hood to check if everything was tight and in place. i opened the box, and bout 20 seconds later...the hum started...

i know its the idle control valves, but i dont know how to make it stop now.

I'm still not convinced that it is something abnormal or that it can be made to stop. If in doubt, you should take the car to the dealer and have it diagnosed. My only suggestion is to try and reset the ECU and see if this has any impact on the noise. The IAC mechanism is under direct control of the ECU.

it's either your icv or your secondary air pump to help the cat light off.

Yep. I agree. Read the Helms and it gives a rather detailed operation of the emission systems. The secondary air pump turns on when there is a specified delta temp between the intake manifold and CAT temp. The Helms bible says that the air will come on at first startup and at idle after driving around. So, I don't think that your humming is anything to worry about. Think of your stook as being so happy that it humms.
It's all good.

Roku had the same problem. I occurred when he installed a spoon filter element and snorkel. He actually replaced the TB with a spoon one, and the sound is still there. Nothing to worry about. really.

try cleaning the t-body, we have had some come in with a whistle sound and that helped it.

btw, it's most pronounced to me around 3k rpm, this is when the sound is the clearest...
