Hub Bearing Issue?
2000 S2000 AP1 - clicking noise
So I have searched the forum to find something about this and have come up empty handed. There is a consistent clicking noise coming from the front left tire area that increases as speed increases. When I apply brake pressure, it goes away. Also, whenever I make right turns there is a smell that resembles a blown out candle or plastic lightly melting. I pulled the wheel off and the brake pads so there would be free movement of the rotor. While spinning the rotor both ways, I heard nothing whatsoever so I am thinking that this has to do with weight on it. I wiggled the rotor and noticed that it had very minimal movement so I tightened down the two Phillips screws and repeated the process and it no longer had any play. But I am still hearing the clicking sound. What could this possibly be? I haven't ruled out a bearing issue but I find that hard to believe that it would go out this early on with only 71xxx miles. Could someone please help me out? Should I be driving with it like this as it is my only mode of transportation? Would I be able to fix this myself at home?

There isn't a nail or something in the tire.. is there?
Did you find any wear marks on the inner sidewall of that left front tire?
To replace the wheel bearing you need a press.
The knuckle has to be removed too = need ball joint removal tool.
With the wheel mounted and tightend do you feel any play wiggeling the wheel at 12 and 6 o-clock?
(with the car jacked up - be safe!)

chemr, I had the passenger side rear bearing replaced at 69k. I read it was common on the '00.It sounds like a bearing or warped brake rotor. Paying to have a bearing put on costs about as much as buying the tools and doing it yourself.Hope I helped

Took mine to Ultracare in Stockton, there in the book, found them very reasonable I thought. When I still had my '00 they did an oil change and check all the fluids.Good thing too the diff gear oil was getting alittle dark. They specialize acura and hondas.Let know what it cost you, real curious.Hope your back on the road soon.TC
