Last night I noticed my car was making a slight "howling" sound when turning corners or making a u-turn at low speeds. It sounds like it may be coming from the rear end, but not sure. I have 450 miles on my '01 and I just started to notice it. Any ideas?

Thanks

Same here, I only hear the noise from a dead stop. I know our mileage is quite different, but the symptoms sound very similar. Let me know.

Thanks

I notice a slight groan at full lock from a stop. I have seen this posted before and many of us have it. I have never have shocked my drivetrain so I'm curious as to what the cause may be. I currently have 1400 miles on the car and noticed it around 1000 miles--could have been present from the start but just never noticed it. Hopefully someone else has an explanation for it. Anyhow, I will mention it to my dealer at the first service.

Just from your description, this sounds like a differential issue. Let us know what the dealer determines.

i'm going in for my diff on monday. over this past weekend, we had mine, davepk's, silversurfer and krazik's cars up on jacks. everyone's rear wheels spun with the force of a pinky...mine had to put weight behind. this combined w/ handling differences between our cars (mine breaks loose MUCH easier) told me to bring it in.

To All, A limited slip differential will grown a bit during very sharp turns. If it gets worse it probably just needs the fluid changed.

DoctorJ, you are correct, a limited slip differential will groan a little when turning. But the S2000 differential is not a limited slip differential. It is a torsen T-2 differential, which is actually an auto torque biasing differential (all helically cut gears, no clutches). When I had this problem, I contacted Torsen and they said this differential should never make any noises unless it is broken or defective.
