Howl from rear end

Howl from rear end
Hello all,
I am new to the s2000 world and this forum, please bare with me. I have an issue I'm hoping someone can help me with. My 02 has about 105,000kms on it. It has an ap2 tranny and a 4.77 rear end. I recently went to the drag strip with it and after a few runs I noticed a howl under deceleration. Under load it seems to make no noise. The howl almost sounds like loud tire noise, clutch in or out/neutral doesn't make a difference. I'm hoping someone has some insight into my problem. I checked the level of my diff fluid and it was fine, there was no noticeable metallic colouring in it. The Half shafts seem to have no play, cv joints are good. I think it is something internal in the diff... let me know what you think and where i should look next. Thanks

Upon jacking the car up and looking at it again. I believe the pinion Bearing is worn or on its way out. I can get a bit of rotation in my driveshaft and slight bit of up and down play. Which makes me think the flexing is causing the wrong clearances between the gears... and resulting with the howl. Does this make sense? Does anyone know if there is a DIY on how to rebuild differentials with all the clearances and torques?

Try changing your diff fluid, I had a similar problem last year and a diff fluid change sorted it .
Did you check the condition of the oem mounts?? make sure none of them are leaking. My rear diff ( oem not modded ) howls and grumbles a bit but that's because I use aftermarket stiffer mounts. When I was having my diff swapped out one of the rear mounts ( drivers side ) was worn to shit. Also, swap the fluid to AMSOIL severe gear 75/90 if you think you have any wear. it should prolong the life of the diff..depending on how worn it is. im using all AMSOIL fluids in my car now and its amazing stuff..
But my diff is all sorts of noisy and from what I can tell its fine...noisy diffs aren't uncommon..
