Former, I've used chamois a lot, both real and synthetic plus those funny yellow or blue things ("absorbers"?) you buy at the Stampede and Home shows. I prefer my current way of washing and drying a car far better than any other method I've used BUT then, I'm not quite as particular about car care as some folks here. All types of wipes, even the synthetic chamois, once it's been used a little bit still leaves tiny little specs of "something" behind. I'm sure I don't have the "best" or the most fool proof way there is but it works very well for me.

thanks, might give the blade a try. I think the key to get all the dirt off on the pre wash before taking the wash mit to it. 2 mits would be ideal...
If all else fails Zaino Z5 works great to cover up the fine swirl marks.
