How to tell if there is a Header Leak?
Hey everyone ,
I just installed my mugen header last night using xvipers and Salaska's great write ups!
Anyways I'm unsure if I have an exhaust leak or its just the sound of the new header anyone wanna help me find a solution to my problem! Is there a specific order I should of reattached my header? ie bolt pattern or head secured first before the cats, bracket and etc?)
Thanks guys your the best

First of all, did you complete the torquing of the header to head nuts before attaching the cat? Did you use a new header gasket or re-use the old one? Your old one could have been deformed or have the ridges from the old header and thus, not seal properly with the new header. Did you get a new "donut" between the header and cat? Again, the old donut may have odd ridges that won't conform to the new piece.
The header nuts at the engine should be tightened sequentially starting from the middle ones and working out to the front and rear. Tighten in stages to ensure that the mating surfaces come together evenly and without "humps". Do it in 2 to 3 stages, the last one being the one where you put on the required torque.
It may very well be the way your header sounds. If it leaks, you should be able to hear some hissing. If it was winter and really cold out, you might be able to see it.

When I had a Spoon header it leaked pretty bad, my ex mechanic didn't torque the header correctly. He also forgot to put my engine nut back on... That was a real nightmare... You can hear a pretty distinct sound if it's leaking. There was also alot more drone as well.
