Default How to tell if the motor mount is broken?

I have a feeling that i have at least one broken engine mount.

I need to take a better look at the driver side one but it appears there may be a small tear at the top of the mount. I checked from the top of the engine bay and couldn't see any oil spill from it.

The passenger side one looked fine but I think i need to inspect it again.

Does anyone know how the a good mount is supposed to look? There's a metal plate on top of the mount. Is it permanently glued to the rubber? Is it ok for the metal plate to be slightly misaligned from the rubber? I can't see any tears.

the metal plate just sits on top of the engine mount, there is like a raised bump that fits into a recesed area in the metal plate. the rubber should not have any deep rips, tiny surface cracks are pretty common. Look at it from the bottom of the car, but make sure it is jacked up and supported properly before getting underneath the vehicle.
