just received my 4.56 installed diff from hardtopguy. other than opening the case to check what diff it is, how can you tell just by looking at its outer body? i have ap2 and asked for ap2 diff housing.

No there is no way to tell from the outside. So if you are conserned that HTG is being dishonest, I would advise you jut to return it to you and be done with it.

The bolts used to connect the diff to the drive shaft are bigger on the AP2 Diff. Hardtopguy is

As to the tech question,
There is no way to tell from the outside other than the pinion flange having larger holes in it for the 10 mm screws.
You would have to open it up to look at the bearing caps, that is the only way to tell.

If you bought it from Jeff then it is what he said it is AP2
