How to prevent wear spots on top
Do any of you guys know how to prevent the normal wear spots on the top? My top doesnt have any damage yet and I would like to keep it that way.

Don't put your top down!!

A friend of mine glued thin rubber patches on the inside where the wear spots are to give the spot some strength..

Use a garage, a car cover will contribute to "wear" spots on the soft top. The process of covering and uncovering the car "polishes" shiny spots on the soft top areas with metal framing underneath.
I don't really know how to avoid them altogether, I doubt that is even possible. Using a car cover will however accelerate the process.
EDIT: Y'know upon re-read I think I misunderstood the original posters question, please ignore me. I was thinking of something else altogether.

Two very important notes.
1 keep the top up in storage.
2 there's one bar above your head, that is held back by elastic straps. These straps, even on new cars, does not keep this bar back tight enough. You should keep rearward pressure on that bar with your finger when lowering the top.
This holds true for new/all s2k's. If you don't keep pressure on this bar, the tips of the levers will cut lines in the top in the "money" spot when the top is in the down position. The same spot where most tops have holes.

Do a search under "soft top". You will find a recent thread where there is a link to a fix made by a British member. It includes pictures and instructions on how to make covers for the knuckles on the soft top frame that wear holes in the top. I made a pair for my top yesterday. It took about 15 minutes.
