If your car is getting a steady diet of trips longer than 1/2 hour and getting a fair amount of highway miles, then extending your OCIs with a good synthetic oil is fine. If your car gets primarily short trips, spends a lot of time idling, or only gets 3000 miles a year, then you are better off shortening up your OCI.
I'm using Amsoil 0W-30 with mostly highway miles and I went 24,000 miles on my last oil change. This time, I'm going to 30,000 miles. My last UOA shows that my oil is still in great shape (I'm using a bypass filter, so extending my OCIs this much isn't as extreme as it seems).

That's nuckin futs. Never heard anyone pushing it that far. If you're getting UOA's and it's good tho then wow. I might have to switch to Amsiol after all. I'm using Havoline 10-30 GF-4 and change it every 3-5k miles.

^ Agreed. Everyone's so OBSESSED with UOAs. I change mine every 2-3 track events. Which ends up being around 2-3k miles. If I didn't track the car, I'd do it every 4k-6k or so.
Under ideal conditions, Honda calls to change regular oil at 7500miles. I do my S2000's oil changes based on how much abuse the oil takes. At 2-3 track events plus driving it to have fun, I'd imagine it's pretty tired. I always use synthetic oil in my S2000. Usually it's Mobil1 10W-30. ($20-23 at walmart). I either drive my S2000 to the track, on the track, and back from the track...or if it's a nice day and I want to have some fun. It sees 6k miles a year on average.
I change my civic's oil every 4-5k usually. Since I live in the real world where it gets hot and cold, there's traffic, the engine often sees 8200RPM, it's dusty at times, I sometimes make short trips, etc. etc. etc, I don't wait till 7500 miles. I use valvoline high mileage synthetic blend (It's $12 per 5 qts. from walmart). My civic is my daily. It sees everything from idle to rev limiter with no usual pattern. The mileage is mostly highway, though. 80-120 miles a day 5 days a week.
I think if you DD your car, real world conditions would put your M1 or other quality synthetic oil at "tired" at probably about 5-8k or so. 3K is a bit early.
