How much does a gallon of gas weigh?

Okay Tanq, Imperial units just won't do to answer that question. But you may have been confused by specific gravity (ratio of density to water) versus density (mass/volume). In metric-speak you're asking for a density of 0.959 g/cc.
Hmm...carbolic acid is darn close, as is castor oil, liquid carbon dioxide (near 0 deg C), and about 28% ethanol in water. Nerdy enough for you?

I am still trying to figure out why a gallon weighs 8.34 pounds.
A dry ounce is a unit of weight.
A fluid ounce is a unit of volume.
I thought that water was the the substance where 1 fl.oz. equaled 1 dry oz (just like in the metric system where 1 ml of water weighs 1 gram).

OK Kaptain... I agree it will produce more mechanical energy in an internal combustion engine due to a more efficient burn at the precise time, but what about BTU rating if the fuel insitu ???
Octane rating and energy density are not directly related. Octane is a number referring to the knock resistance of a fuel. Various chemicals can be added to increase the knock resistance (octane) that can either raise or lower the energy density of gasoline.

It would be a lot easier if you guys used a sensible modern system of measurement
If the specific gravity is 0.76 then 1L weighs 0.76kg
It doesn't get much easier than that
