I can't really tell if they're noisy or not but nearing 30K mark. Is this a good time to get valves adjusted? Honda service recommendation is at 105K ???

I think the 1st valve adjustment should be done between 7K and 10K miles (after break-in). The valve clearances have been reported to be poorly adjusted from the factory, and they should change most during break-in, as they seat themselves. If you can do it yourself, that would be much better than having a shop do it. I doubt a shop would put nearly the TLC into the adjustment that they deserve. It is not particularly difficult, but requires a few tools, and a couple hours.

BTW, if the valve clearances are too small, they will be quiet, and that is much more dangerous (and maybe more likely).

I don't think there is such a thing as a good price, since I don't believe this is a job for someone else. The cheaper the price, the less time and patience they are going to put into it. The gasket won't need replacing.

There should be no need for a new gasket. I adjusted mine at about 25,000 because I was tired of listening to all the valve clatter. Speaking for myself, I was very glad that I did adjust the valves. It idles smoother and the racket is gone. The engine sounds like a DOHC engine with roller followers again, instead of a thrashing machine.

I also did this myself, because I like to put in a little more time and get the clearances perfect, not "close enough". Perfect on this car is difficult to achieve, but that's how I like to do things.

It isn't hard, but you really do need to have a Helm's manual if you are going to do it yourself.

It isn't hard, BUT you do need to know what you are doing. If you have never adjusted valves before, you might get into trouble. Several people have because they didn't know what they were doing. I would suggest that you get one of these ratchet/socket sets from Sears, first.

This will allow you to put your screwdriver through the top of the 10mm socket while you adjust the clearance. Very Cool and they are only $29.99.
