I don't think my JICs are that great, but I'm pretty certain I'm not bottoming them out. The ride height has no effect on damper travel at all (same as the Buddy Clubs). If the Tien flex is designed similarly to the JIC or BCs, I expect that they wouldn't have a bottoming problem either. Optimal suspension geometry, spring and damping rates would be my concern.

gernby, put a zip tie around the piston of a rear shock go drive really hard, especailly at an auto-x or track day and see how close it gets to the hat. I bet you'll be supprised. There is a reason we have remote resivours on the stock rear shocks.

and suspension adjustment has nothing to do with bottoming out or limiting travel.

Wouldn't the tie wrap damage the seals or something if I did bottom it out (or go within 1/8" of bottoming it out)?

no, if you fully bottom out it will break off. use a small one.

You know I actually want to try this. What do you have the rear damper set at?

Thats really interesting, i think i'm gonna try that on my tein RA's. I'm still confused though when you say suspension adjustments can't change the amount of piston travel. Don't the flex's and bc's have adjustments so that you can still lower it without changing the amount of piston travel?

I think what Krazik is saying is that there is an inherent problem with the length of the rear dampers that requires external reservoirs in order to have enough damper travel. None of the rear dampers with internal reservoirs have as much damper travel (up or down) as stock.

Do the Koni Yellows have external reservoirs?

Nope.

Also, do you think cutting the stock bumpstops would give the shock more travel?

I left mine alone, but i'm second guessing myself. I'm using the Koni yellows with KG/mm's on the lower perch.
