after 30 years, my 1988 gtx's rubber hoses are NLA- I have to custom all hoses- wish I'd stocked up years ago.

That being said, I decided to keep the same rad hoses when I changed the coolant last weekend on the s2000.

I'm no longer vested in replacing every coolant hose at this time; I didn't realize how big of an undertaking it was, lol.

I would think that some Shin-Etsu on the hoses wouldn't hurt anything?

Thoughts?

Shin-Etsu or 3M Silicone Grease (same stuff chemically and property wise-only difference is quantity and price) should not affect the rubber as some other stuff might (Armour All) It may help repel oil coming in contact with it. I don’t know if those hoses begin to fail from the inside or the outside first.

190k original hoses, I replaced one coolant hose going from under the throttle body to the bleeder. Had to because of aftermarket intake. I also replaced the PCV hose 4 years ago.

Make sure you wipe off the shin etsu after working it in the rubber. That stuff attracts dirt like crazy.

i would guess inside out, and therefore, shin-etsu or silicone grease may not help.

this is just a guess.

they effort of greasing the hoses may exceed the effort of replacing, given that replacing will last longer in the event the grease doesn't help much?

That crazy youtube mechanic that shouts a lot (Scotty Kilmer) advocates using this product, transferred to a spray bottle, to spray on rubber parts that are expensive to replace. Like axle boots, suspension bushings, etc.

ATP AT-205 ATP AT-205

He claims it preserves the rubber. I bought some, will try it out. I imagine it would help protect the exterior of hoses as well (though agree that coolant hoses wear from inside out. Which environment do you think is harsher. Boiling temp toxic water, or merely stifling hot air? (Boiling temp if not pressurized)).

I use 303 on my hoses once and awhile. Figure it can't hurt and makes them look good too.

i've seen his videos. how in the world do you spray shin-etsu grease? that stuff is thick.

i can understand axle boots and bushings. however, coolant hoses have really hot coolant flowing in the inside, not sure you can minimize the degradation from exterior lubrication. again i'm just guessing.
