oil takes a good 10 mins of normal driving to get to operati g temps. the temp se sor only shows that the block is up to temp. but your oil isnt ready. if you have a oil temp gauge you can see that .

It usually takes 15 minutes of good driving for mine to reach 180-200 degree oil temps. That's not stoplight to stoplight. That's a good cruise speed at normal rpms in 80º weather. The ambient outside temperature plays a factor in the required warm up time as well. It takes longer to heat the engine at 30ºF than it does at say 100ºF. I would never push the engine hard right after the coolant hits 3 bars (AP1). The oil temps are usually still below 130ºF at that point.

The guy who said he redlines at 3 bars said he had an AP2. In which case, he was advocating for redlining on a car that isn't even close to operating temperature, which is terrible advice.

True story. I have a temp gauge and the oil isn't at 180+ for 10+ minutes after the coolant temp is at 200.

10-15 minutes is good advice to someone without an oil temp gauge. Gear, tranny and engine oil will be up to temp by then. I feel sorry for the guys that have to jump on a freeway right away.

Once the temp guage reads fully warm doesnt mean your oil temp is up to temp. My oil pressure reads at temp (pressure changing) about 2 or 3 minutes of highway driving after the water temp reaches it
