Default How to: Fill water drain for Cold Air Intake (PICS)

So there's some concern with hydro locking your motor and it comes up pretty often that you should "fill in the rain/runoff drain" so it doesn't constantly leak onto your cold air intake filter. I made a quick DIY on how to do this.

Skill level - 0.5/10 this is ridiculously easy
Total time: 1 hour (mostly waiting for the filler to dry)

The reason why I did this: Cold Air Intake

Things you will need: 1 roll of outdoor mounting tape, A Q-Tip or 2, Steel Filler

Yes it's water proof!

1. Firs thing you want to do is locate the drain/hole that will be filled. This is located on the Passenger side of the s2000. Facing the s2000 head on, it will be on the left, right next to the headlight.

2. Slice off about 1 inch and a quarter or so to place UNDERNEATH the hole. We will be making a "sandwich" of mounting tape, then filler then more mounting tape. The access point that I used was through the hole behind the drain, along the inside fender as shown here. (sorry for dark pics)

Place Tape underneath hole and ensure a good seal. It is a TIGHT squeeze to get your arm in there, but it can be done.

3. Open up your filler and till in the hole VERY slowly.

After a few minutes it will start to settle. Since the hole itself is on a downward slope, wait til it starts getting a little thicker. Take your Q-Tip to "push" some of the excess filler upward to make it even as possible. The most important part here is ensuring you have a good seal. Don't make it too thick, otherwise the top layer of mounting tape will stick out.

4. Cut off 1 more inch of your mounting tape and place on top of the hardened filler.

Lucky for me the Mounting tape was red and was VERY similar to New Formula Red.
Hope this helps someone.

Are there any secondary effects by the closure of this drain?

I prefer the rubber stopper method. I believe a 1/2" rubber stopper fits the hole perfectly and can be removed very easily. I've never had a problem since I installed mine.

Where did you get the rubber stopper and can you post a few pics?

Thanks
