Default How does a front splitter work?

I really like the look of some front splitters, but before I get one (most likely make it), I want to understand how it works. I was able to understand how a rear diffuser works, but I've been researching for at least 4 hours and I cant seem to understand how a front splitter creates downforce. Can anyone help me out? Visuals would be a real plus.
Thanks,
Greg

High air pressure builds in front of the car at speed but it isn't normally controlled and spills around the car in all directions. The splitter "splits" the air mass to allow a smoother stream under the car earlier. The combined effect is fast moving air going under the car causing downpressure while the high pressure zone continues to feed intakes.

Okay. That makes a little more sense. So the idea shape should be perfectly flat?

anything more or less paraller to the ground will be better than stock setup which is a "wall" 90 dgeress to the ground.

also the lower it to the ground the more downforce will be created.

obviously it's also speed dependant...

Okay, cool. I'll be making one eventually, as well as a rear diffuser

The idea is to divide the air between what goes cleanly under the car and what pools in front. There's no reason for it to be anything other than a flat straight piece but it needs to extend ahead of the car to be effective.

When I was researching, I saw some examples of a curve, trying to emulate a diffuser. I just wasnt sure if they were the same thing or not

The CR front lip essentially has a splitter.
