I've never over-reved my car (AP1), but I bought it with 90k miles, one previous owner, and an unknown service history. I pulled the head to do a valve adjustment and to check the retainers after a series of misfires. My car has been running better since then, with no misfires.

I tried comparing with images on this site, but I don't have an expert's eye. None of the cotters looked recessed into the keeper what I could tell, but I thought I would take some pictures and see what y'all think.

Thanks for looking! It was a pain to photograph but the peace of mind is worth it.

Provided I don't ever overrev, I don't think I'll do the AP2 retainer swap. I like my engines original, I don't have a local mechanic I trust right now, and I'm scared to death of dropping a keeper in to the engine if I try it myself.

If you never mechanically overrev the car your AP1 retainers will outlast almost every other component in the car by 5x lol. Honda designed the AP1 retainers VERY well for their intended use, they jsut aren't as "forgiving."
